Will it Change?

Will it change?

I conducted a lesson on how much water would it take to make a diaper leak.   I started the lesson by having fake snow on the table, and having student place water into the polymer to make it expand.  The students were surprised by what happened to the substance they thought was salt.  Next, I had the students made a hypothesize about what they thought would happen to the diaper when water was added.

I do believe my lesson used inquiry based, because the students had to decide how much water to add to the diaper before it began to leak.  In addition, the students had to change one variable of the experiment to conduct the experiment again. The students recorded the information they learned from the experiment.

We think:

Diapers expand due to the substance in the diaper.

When a different substance is added the diapers will not always hold as much liquid.

The polymer is what absorbs the liquid in a diaper.

Physical change is not the same as chemical change.
